Why we are creating Stories from the Blue?

The ocean connects people in countless ways. It shapes our communities, our memories, our cultures, and our hopes for the future. But not everyone has the same opportunity to learn about the ocean, take part in marine science, or feel that they belong in ocean spaces.

Mermaids Beyond Borders was created to help change that. We bring people together to learn about the ocean, share knowledge and stories, and shape meaningful action to protect it. We are currently focusing particularly on understanding and addressing the barriers disabled people face in accessing ocean knowledge, marine education, and conservation. We will keep listening and learning as this work develops.

Stories from the Blue is a place to share that journey. We hope to bring you ocean stories from communities and coastlines, accessible learning and ideas, updates on our work, and reflections on the changes that can make ocean spaces more welcoming.

We are at the beginning of this journey, and we do not have all the answers. We want this space to grow through curiosity, care, and the voices of the people who connect with the ocean in different ways.

We are glad you are here. The ocean has no borders, and neither should the opportunity to learn about it, share its stories, or help protect it.
