How to Get Involved

There is a place for you here

There is no single way to protect the ocean or be part of Mermaids Beyond Borders. We are a community driven ocean education and conservation organisation dedicated to bridging cultures, empowering communities, and making ocean science, marine science, and marine conservation accessible to all.

At this stage, we are focusing on understanding and addressing the barriers disabled people face in accessing ocean knowledge, marine education, and conservation. We continue to welcome people and communities across different backgrounds, experiences, and ways of learning.

Whether you have time, skills, ideas, lived experience, a story to share, or simply care deeply about the sea, there are different ways to take part. Involvement should be accessible, flexible, and meaningful.

Volunteer with us

You do not need a marine science background to contribute. We welcome people with interests and skills in education and outreach, accessibility, creative media and storytelling, research support, events, digital engagement, and community coordination.

Tell us about your interests and the ways you would like to contribute. We will explore what might be a good fit.

Share a story or perspective

Ocean Echoes makes space for people’s relationships with the ocean, their stories, and community knowledge. Through Ocean Love Story, you can share a personal story, creative work, interview, or reflection.

Letters to the Ocean is one way to take part. Letters may be written, spoken, signed, or expressed through art. They can be emailed to contact@mermaidsbeyondborders.org and may be published in the Ocean Love Story virtual art gallery (opens in a new tab) and on MBB’s Instagram.

Collaborate with us

A Tide We Make brings MBB and communities together to shape partnerships and practical ocean projects. We are interested in hearing from disabled people, disability organisations, educators, ocean scientists, youth groups, and community organisations.

You can help shape accessible ocean learning, share expertise, develop ideas, or explore a project together. We want our work to be informed by people’s experiences and shaped with the communities involved.

You do not need to fit a mould to belong here.

We are building a community where people can connect with the ocean and contribute in ways that work for them.
