Welcome to the Mermaids Beyond Borders blog, a place where the ocean is written about by the people who love it. Here you’ll find ocean stories from islands, coastlines and communities often left out of environmental spaces, updates on our projects as they take shape, educational ideas for learning about the sea in accessible ways, and voices from our global community.

Much of what we publish will also look honestly at the barriers disabled people face in accessing ocean knowledge, marine education and conservation. These include assumptions, costs, and physical or communication gaps that can keep people away from spaces that should be open to everyone. We will also share practical changes that help reduce these barriers. We welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences and ways of learning, because if the ocean has no borders, why should opportunity?
